TAXILA: The Attockdistrict administration on Saturday announced 5pc decrease in public transport fares on all intercity routes after cut in petroleum prices. The reduction in fares will apply on both intra-city and inter-city public transport. The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by the Deputy Commissioner Rao Atif Raza and attended by Secretary district road transport authority Zaheer Ahmed Khan bus terminal managers and representatives of transport union. The cleanliness of bus stands also came under discussion. Later during his visit to the general bus stand, Deputy Commissioner Rao Atif Raza while talking to newsmen said that the Attock district administration took the decision after the federal government reduced petroleum products’ prices. “It is necessary to provide direct relief to the public after the reduction of petroleum products prices,” he added. Responding to a question, Mr Raza has said that district administration was actively checking fare lists at all bus terminals while strict action will be taken against transporters overcharging passengers. He directed the Secretary district transport authority to display the list at prominent places on all bus stands, form a special squad to check whether the fares fixed by the government were being charged or not on a daily basis. He said that banners and posters highlighting new fares should be displayed at bus stands. He said that a cell should be established in the office of secretary transport authority where citizens could register their complaints about overcharging by transporters.
